Top 20 Classic Love Songs (Part 2)

This is Part 2 of Top 20 Classic Love Songs. I just want to say that brainstorming this list was tons of fun. It was also a lot of work watching the videos, researching the songs, and pulling out perfect lyrics. I have so much respect for blogs who do this often.

That being said: Enjoy!

10. Journey - Faithfully

"Oh, girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully"
Journey is another must for this list and it would be almost sacrilegious if I didn't include this song. Faithfully peaked at #12 on Billboards Hot 20 and popularity continues to grow into today with popular shows like Glee covering it. This is an anthem for long distance lovers trying to make the relationship work.

9. Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love

"This thing called love I just can't handle it
this thing called love I must get round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love"
I wish rockabilly was still mainstream. There is something attractive about a man being super manly on his motorcycle, wearing a leather jacket and ripping his shirt all while singing about a crazy little thing called love.

8. Howie Day - Collide

"I somehow find
You and I collide"
Okay, I know this song is still fairly new compared to others on this list and it did not make a gigantic commercial success. However, it did peak on the US Hot 100 charts at #20 and this is my list and I love this song. It is a typical love song of opposites clashing but love each other so much. His voice is lovely and that's final.

7.  Aerosmith - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing

"I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Where every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure"
A power ballad for Armageddon, nominated for an Academy Award, and Aerosmith's highest charting song in the UK. This song is global and while slightly creepy that he's watching her sleep very intently, it is a aww type of creepy. This is the type of song my dad would play and sing horribly and loudly while chasing my mom when I was little so of course it's a classic.

6. The Partridge Family - I Think I Love You

"Believe me you really don't have to worry
I only want to make you happy
And if you say, Hey, go away, I will
But I think better still I better stay around and love you
Do you think I have a case? Let me ask you to your face
Do you think you love me? I think I love you"
I'm not the biggest Partridge Family Fan. However, the lyrics of this song is so great. This song was released the same day as the debut of the sitcom which ended up being a great marketing technique for the sitcom since the song started to rise on the music charts. Eventually, it topped out at #1 for three weeks in the USA and four weeks in Canada. Furthermore, who hasn't quoted "I think I love you," to someone?

5. Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

"If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time"
This ballad is heavily covered, extremely popular across all genres and a commercial success. I love it. All of it. The original and every cover possible. I'm not sure why but it is in my top best songs ever in the history of time list. Also been nominated for a Grammy, which is a big deal.

4. The Cure - Just Like Heaven

"'Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you'"
The Cure made it on the list twice. I tried to avoid doing that but I couldn't decide between the two songs. "Just like Heaven" only peaked in Billboard's Hot 100 at #40 but it was their first hit in the US and has been covered by multiple artists including Alvin and the Chipmunks which is a clear indication you created a hit.

3. Berlin - Take My Breath Away

"Watchin' every motion in my foolish lover's game
On this endless ocean, finally lovers know no shame
Turnin' every turn to some secret place inside
Watchin' in slow motion as you turn around and say
Take my breath away"
This ballad is the theme song of the 1986 movie Top Gun. It has won an Academy Award and a Global Globe. It peaked #1 in multiple charts around the world including: USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK. It even sold enough copies to get gold status in the US, Canada and France.

2. The Police - Every Breath You Take

"Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace"
First off, this song was nominated for three Grammys and won two of them. It has ranked as #84 on Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Songs of All Time," the highest a new wave song has reached on the list. This song is a big deal and is often considered a cute love song. Actually, it's kind of a creepy stalker song. Why is it on the list? Well, Valentine's Day makes people crazy. And everyone can relate to being a little obsessive about an ex at one point or another. It's on the list for those people.

1. Frank Sinatra - Fly Me to the Moon

"Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me"
Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. Okay this one is number one on the list for a reason. I love this song. Frank Sinatra is actually covering the song, originally written by Bart Howard. Sinatra's rendition of this song is so perfect. This song also has been recognized as a Towering Song by Songwriters Hall of Fame. This recognition is chosen each year for a song that has influence pop culture in big way.
